Vorau with 4706 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2019) is a market town in Styria (Austria).
As of January 1, 2015, it is associated with the communities Puchegg, Riegersberg, Schachen in Vorau and Vornholz within the framework of the Styrian municipal structural reform, the new municipality continues the name “Vorau”. Vorau is known by the Augustinian monastery Vorau with its famous for its ancient manuscripts library. Documented Vorau is already mentioned 1149 the first time. 1163 it comes to the founding of the Abbey Vorau by Margrave Ottokar III, which is crucial for the further development of the place.
