Bergern im Dunkelsteinerwald is a municipality with 1253 inhabitants (1 January 2018) in the district Krems-Land in Lower Austria.
The municipality is located in the dark stone forest in the Lower Austrian Mostviertel, but also belongs to the Wachau and geologically speaking to the Waldviertel. The area of the municipality covers 36.53 square kilometers. 68.42 percent of the area is wooded. The municipality includes the following 10 villages: Geyersberg, Maria Langegg, Nesselstauden, Oberbergern, Paltmühl, Plaimberg, Scheiblwies, Schenkenbrunn including Kreuzberg, Unterbergern including Donauleiten, Wolfenreith.
Maria Langegg is a village and place of pilgrimage in the eponymous cadastral municipality of the Lower Austrian community Bergern im Dunkelsteinerwald with about 70 inhabitants. It is located southwest of the town of Mautern on the Danube on a hill (510 m above sea level) in the Dunkelsteinerwald. As a cadastral municipality, Maria Langegg has an area of 206.05 hectares.
